What it means
So that; to make it possible to: the second clause says what the first action makes easier.
How it is built
Action，以便 + desired result (it may have its own subject): 请留下电话号码，以便我们联系您 (Please leave your number so that we can contact you).
When to use it
Written and polite formal speech. Spoken: 好 + verb: 留个电话，好联系你. Its mirror image is 以免, 'so as to avoid'.
Watch out
以便 opens the second clause, not the sentence: ✗ 以便联系您，请留下电话 ✓ 为了方便联系您，请留下电话. Good results take 以便; bad ones to avoid take 以免.
Examples
修建铁路和港口，以便促进贸易和投资。
Railways and ports are built so as to promote trade and investment.
请留下电话号码，以便我们联系您。
