What it means
To be able to, thanks to some condition: says a result became possible because of what came before.
How it is built
(Condition)，subject + 得以 + verb: 在大家的帮助下，问题终于得以解决 (With everyone's help the problem was finally solved). Also 使…得以: 使问题得以解决.
When to use it
Written. Usually a two-syllable verb follows: 解决, 实现, 保存, 发展. Plain spoken: 能 or 才能.
Watch out
It has no negative: ✗ 没得以解决 ✓ 无法解决 or 难以解决. Don't confuse it with 不得已, 'having no alternative' (not 不得以).
Examples
太阳能发电得以在许多国家变得比燃煤发电还便宜。
Solar power was thus able to become cheaper than coal in many countries.
在大家的帮助下，问题终于得以解决。
With everyone’s help the problem was finally solved.
