那(么),……
then, in that case (following on from what was just said)
Structure
那 ( 么 ) ,……
What it means
那 (or the fuller 那么) starts a reply that follows from what the other person has just said: “then, in that case”.
How it is built
那(么)+ your reply: 你不去?那我也不去了 (You’re not going? Then I won’t go either).
When to use it
It goes at the very start, sometimes with a comma. In speech 那 alone is far more common. In h2-20 那么 meant “so” (那么大); here it links your answer to what you heard.
Watch out
This is not 那 “that” as in 那个人. 那我们发信息吧 means “then let’s text”, not “that …”.
Examples
你不去?那我也不去了。
You’re not going? Then I won’t go either.
今天下雨?那我们下个周末再去吧。
It’s raining today? In that case, let’s go next weekend.
信号不好?那么我们发信息吧。
Bad signal? Then let’s text.
