Structure
句子一。 此后／随后／与此同时／最终 ， 句子二。
What it means
Time connectives at the head of a sentence link it to the whole sentence before, so the reader follows the stages of a process across full stops.
How it is built
Sentence 1。 + 此后／随后／与此同时／紧接着／最终 + ， + sentence 2: 方案改了三次。最终，评委选中了一位年轻建筑师的作品 (in the end the judges chose a young architect's design).
When to use it
此后 from then on, over a stretch; 随后 the next step straight after; 与此同时 meanwhile; 紧接着 immediately after; 最终 in the end. Written; in speech 后来, 然后, 同时. Lesson 6-23 did this with logic words.
Watch out
Don't open every sentence with 然后: it sounds like chatter. 此后 is not for a single next step (use 随后) or the future from now (use 今后); it counts on from a point already mentioned.
Examples
2014年12月26日，工程正式开工。此后几年，工程紧锣密鼓地推进。
Work officially began on 26 December 2014. Over the next few years it pressed ahead at full tilt.
2019年6月30日，机场如期竣工。随后近三个月，各项设施一一验收、试运行。
The airport was completed on schedule on 30 June 2019. Over the next three months or so every facility was inspected and tried out.
新馆的设计方案改了三次。最终，评委选中了一位年轻建筑师的作品。
The design for the new museum was changed three times. In the end the judges chose the work of a young architect.
