Structure
继 前一件事 之后 ， 后一件事（常带 又／也）
What it means
Following; after (formal). Places B next in a series that A began, usually an event of the same kind: another city, another title, another launch.
How it is built
继 + earlier event + 之后，later event (often with 也／又): 继北京、上海之后，深圳也出台了类似的规定 (Following Beijing and Shanghai, Shenzhen has issued similar rules).
When to use it
Formal and a favourite of news reports, stressing that B repeats or continues A. In speech say 在 A 以后 or A 之后.
Watch out
Use it for events, not clock times: ✗ 继三点之后 ✓ 三点以后. Since B is the next of the same kind, it usually carries 也 or 又.
Examples
继国民党被解散之后，国会也被解散了。
Following the dissolution of the Nationalists, parliament too was dissolved.
继北京、上海之后，深圳也出台了类似的规定。
Following Beijing and Shanghai, Shenzhen has issued similar rules.
继去年夺冠之后，这支球队今年又一次拿到了冠军。
Following last year’s title, the team has won the championship again this year.
