Example
在这个小区,垃圾分类已经蔚然成风,很少有人乱扔了。
In this housing estate sorting rubbish has caught on with everyone, and hardly anyone throws it about any more.
Tone: positive (praise).
Usage and origin
蔚 means growing thick and lush, as plants do. A written phrase from reports and speeches, used only of good habits: 节约蔚然成风, 全民健身蔚然成风. For a bad trend say 成风 alone or 盛行 (×浪费蔚然成风).
