How it is built
作为 + person / role，subject + comment: 作为老师，他对学生很负责 (As a teacher, he takes real responsibility for his students).
When to use it
It usually opens the sentence and sounds a little formal, so it suits interviews, speeches and writing: 作为外国人，我觉得高铁非常方便.
Watch out
Don’t translate “as a teacher” with 像: 像老师 means “like a teacher”, as if you were not one. ✗ 像老师，我… ✓ 作为老师，我…
