至今

to this day; up to now

Structure
至今 (仍/还) 动词 / 至今 没(有) 动词

What it means

'To this day; up to now': looks back from now at something that began in the past and is still true, or has still never happened.

How it is built

至今 + 仍/还/依然 + verb, or 至今 + 没(有)+ verb: 他至今没跟家里人提起过 (to this day he has never mentioned it to his family). Also 从1990年至今 (from 1990 till now).

When to use it

More formal than 到现在, at home in writing and serious speech; 迄今为止 (so far) is more formal still.

Watch out

It always reaches up to the present, so it can't look forward: ✗我至今会努力。 Use it with 还, 仍 or 没 to show the situation still holds: ✓他至今还记得那一天。
