and moreover; and also (written 而且)
Structure
What it means
Written 'and moreover': opens a second clause after a comma and adds a point in the same direction. That clause is often short.
How it is built
(This medicine works fast and has few side effects). In rules it adds a second requirement: 内容须真实,且不得涂改.
When to use it
Writing and formal speech: rules, forms, official letters and notices. In conversation say 而且 or 还. It can also join two qualities directly
Watch out
It links clauses or predicates, never two nouns: ✗ 老师且学生 ✓ 老师和学生. Do not confuse it with 且 'for now' (且慢, 姑且, 10-21) or with 尚且… (2-19).
Examples
This stretch of mountain road is narrow and steep, and has no street lights either; it should not be used at night.

Time is short and the task is heavy, so everyone must prepare in good time.
