Structure
一组人或东西 ， 其中 + 一部分 + ……
What it means
“Among them, of these”: picks out part of a group you have just named. It already contains “them”.
How it is built
Group，其中 + part + comment: 我们班有十二个学生，其中五个是女生 (There are twelve students in our class, five of them girls).
When to use it
First name the group, then start the next part with 其中. A simpler spoken option is group + 里: 我的朋友里，小王最高.
Watch out
It points back, never forward like English “among”: ✗ 其中我的朋友，小王最高 ✓ 我有很多朋友，其中小王最高.
Examples
我去过很多城市，其中我最喜欢成都。
I’ve been to lots of cities, and of them all I like Chengdu best.
我们班有十二个学生，其中五个是女生。
There are twelve students in our class, five of them girls.
这本书有二十课，其中第五课最难。
