What it means
Phone and room numbers are read one digit at a time, and in them 1 is said yāo.
How it is built
Digit + digit + digit …: 186 = yāo bā liù; 110 = yāo yāo líng. Ask for one with 多少: 你的手机号是多少? (What's your mobile number?)
When to use it
Read phone and room numbers digit by digit. Amounts, prices and page numbers are read as whole numbers: 请看第110页 is dì yī bǎi yī shí yè.
Watch out
Only 1 changes: 2 stays èr (两 liǎng is only for “two of something”, lesson p-4) and 0 is líng. Don't read a page number digit by digit.
