极了 · 死了 · 得很 · 多了
extremely; terribly; much (more)
Structure
形容词/心理动词 + 得很/极了/死了/多了
What it means
Put these after an adjective or a feeling verb (喜欢, 担心) to make it much stronger: 极了 “extremely”, 死了 “terribly”, 得很 “very”, 多了 “much (more)”.
How it is built
Adjective/feeling verb + 极了/死了/得很/多了: 这道菜好吃极了! (this dish is absolutely delicious!) Likewise 热死了 (boiling), 好得很 (very good), 好多了 (much better).
When to use it
极了 and 得很 are everyday and polite enough for anyone. 死了 is very colloquial, mostly for things you suffer (累死了, 饿死了), though happy people say 高兴死了 too. 多了 compares with before or with something else (快多了, h3-9).
Watch out
Don’t add 很 as well: ✗ 很好吃极了。 ✓ 好吃极了。 多了 needs a comparison: 吃了药,我觉得好多了 (better than before).
