放眼…,…
looking across …; taking the whole of … into view
Structure
放眼 范围(全球、全国、世界、行业、历史…) , 判断(没有哪个…比…/…屈指可数)
What it means
‘Cast your eyes over …’: sets a wide frame (the world, the country, an industry, history), and the comment that follows judges everything inside it.
How it is built
放眼 + wide scope + comma + judgement, usually a superlative, comparison or count: 放眼全国,像这样的古城已经不多了 (across the whole country, few old towns like this are left).
When to use it
The voice of news commentary and speeches. Typical follow-ups: 最…, 没有哪个…比…, …屈指可数. As a verb phrase it means to look ahead or abroad: 立足当下,放眼未来.
Watch out
The frame must be wide: ✗ 放眼我们班 sounds odd unless it is a joke; ✓ 放眼全球. Do not confuse it with 放手 (to let go) or 放心 (to be at ease).
