What it means
“Besides this, in addition”: adds one more point to what you have just said.
How it is built
Sentence。此外，(还／也)……: 这套房子离公司很近。此外，房租也不贵 (it’s close to the office; besides, the rent isn’t high). 除此以外 (also 除此之外) works the same way.
When to use it
More formal than 另外, and very common in speeches and writing; in everyday talk 另外 or 还有 sounds more natural. 除此以外 is a short written form of 除了这些以外 “apart from these”.
Watch out
Unlike 另外, 此外 can’t go before a noun: ✗ 此外一个人 ✓ 另外一个人. The next clause often has 还 or 也.

这套房子离公司很近。此外，房租也不贵。
This flat is close to the office. Besides, the rent isn’t high either.
演讲要有好的内容。此外，读音和语法也很重要。
A speech needs good content. Besides that, pronunciation and grammar matter too.
用手机可以支付、打车。除了这些以外，还能学汉语。
With a phone you can pay and get a taxi. Apart from that, you can also learn Chinese on it.
