Structure
主语 动词1 … ， 并 动词2 …
What it means
“And (also)”: adds a second action by the same subject, following or adding to the first. Written.
How it is built
Subject + verb phrase 1，并 + verb phrase 2: 他通过了考试，并拿到了奖学金 (he passed the exam and won a scholarship as well).
When to use it
The “and” of verbs in writing, news and reports; in speech say 还 or 然后, or put the two verbs side by side. 并且 is fuller and can also link two clauses.
Watch out
并 cannot join nouns: ✗ 老师并学生 ✓ 老师和学生. Keep it apart from 并 + 不／没 (并不难, 并没有去), where it strengthens a denial.
Examples
工作人员提前疏散了村民，并用大卡车挡住了路口。
Staff evacuated the villagers in advance and blocked the junctions with heavy lorries.
专家对这群大象进行了研究，并提出了几条建议。
Experts studied the herd and put forward several suggestions.
他通过了考试，并拿到了奖学金。
He passed the exam and won a scholarship as well.
