比你多跑了两公里
say how much earlier, later, more or less someone does something
Structure
A 比 B + 早/晚/多/少 + 动词 + (了) + 数量
What it means
Says by how much someone does something earlier, later, more or less than someone else, or than usual.
How it is built
A + 比 B + 早/晚/多/少 + verb (+ 了) + amount: 他比我早到了十分钟 (he got there ten minutes before me). 我比你少跑了两公里 (I ran two kilometres less than you).
When to use it
早, 晚, 多 or 少 goes in front of the verb and the amount goes after it, just as the amount follows the adjective in 大五岁 (h2-15). B can be a usual time: 今天我比平时多睡了一个小时.
Watch out
English puts “more” or “earlier” at the end; Chinese puts it before the verb: ✗ 他比我到了早十分钟。 ✓ 他比我早到了十分钟。
Examples
