Usage and origin

Said of objects, buildings or the body after damage, a repair or a long time: 保存得完好如初, 修复得完好如初. For friends or a couple who make up after a quarrel, use 和好如初 instead. With relics it means sound and whole again, not shiny and new: a clock can be 完好如初 and still look its age, as 修旧如旧 requires.
