What it means
A formal verb of long-term commitment: 'to devote oneself to, to be committed to' a cause or aim. Used by organisations, scientists and officials.
How it is built
Subject + (多年来／一直／长期／毕生) + 致力于 + cause or aim: 这家公司一直致力于开发更便宜的新能源汽车 (The company has always been committed to developing cheaper new-energy cars).
When to use it
The object can be a noun phrase or a verb phrase (致力于科研, 致力于推动合作). In written style 致力 can take a verb phrase without 于 (致力打造). In everyday speech say 一心做… or 为…努力.
Watch out
Never a person or a one-off job as object: ✗致力于今天的作业. And don't confuse it with 尽力 (doing one's best on a particular occasion).

For many years the reserve has been dedicated to rewilding the milu and releasing them.
这家公司一直致力于开发更便宜的新能源汽车。
The company has always been committed to developing cheaper new-energy cars.
她退休以后致力于保护方言，录下了几百位老人讲的家乡话。
Since retiring she has devoted herself to saving dialects, recording hundreds of old people speaking the language of their home towns.
