What it means
States the condition that must hold before the main clause is allowed or possible: “provided that; on condition that”.
How it is built
在 + short clause or noun phrase + （的）前提下，main clause: 在保证安全的前提下，尽快把车挪到路边 (As long as it is safe, move the car to the side quickly). Compact style: 在此前提下.
When to use it
Formal: laws, contracts, official advice, business writing; in conversation say 只要… or 如果…. 在…的情况下 is a circumstance, not a requirement; 在…的基础上 means building on….
Watch out
The phrase comes first in the sentence, and 如果 does not go in front: ✗如果在保证安全的前提下… ✓在保证安全的前提下…
Examples
在无人受伤、双方对事实没有争议的前提下，当事人可以先撤离现场，再自行协商赔偿。
Provided nobody is hurt and the two sides do not dispute the facts, the parties may leave the scene first and then settle the compensation themselves.
