问了她三次 · 去了三次图书馆

how many times, when the verb has an object: a pronoun goes before the number of times, a thing after it

Structure
动词 (+ 了/过) + 代词 + 次数 · 动词 (+ 了/过) + 次数 + 名词

What it means

How to say how many times you did something when the verb has an object: a pronoun goes before the number of times, an ordinary thing usually goes after it.

How it is built

Verb (+ 了/过) + pronoun + count: 问了她三次 (asked her three times). Verb (+ 了/过) + count + thing: 去了三次图书馆 (went to the library three times).

When to use it

With names of people and places both orders are fine: 去过两次上海 = 去过上海两次. 次 counts occasions; 遍 counts times through from start to finish: 看了两遍课文.

Watch out

A pronoun never follows the count: ✗ 问了三次她 ✓ 问了她三次. Likewise 妈妈叫了我好几次.

Examples

妈妈叫了我好几次,我都没听见。
Mum called me several times, but I didn’t hear her.
这个星期我去了三次图书馆。
I’ve been to the library three times this week.
我给他打了两次电话,他都没接。
I rang him twice, but he didn’t pick up either time.
