What it means
'Is located in; lies in': the written way to say where a place, building or organisation is.
How it is built
Place + 位于 + location: 九寨沟位于四川省北部 (Jiuzhaigou lies in the north of Sichuan). Typical endings: 位于…以东／以南, 位于…之间, 位于…交界处.
When to use it
The written form of 在 for places: guidebooks, maps, company profiles, news. In conversation just say 在: 我们公司在市中心. Use it for fixed places, not people.
Watch out
位于 already contains 'at', so the place comes straight after it: ✗位于在市中心。 ✓位于市中心。

Jiuzhaigou lies in the north of Sichuan.
我们公司位于市中心，交通很方便。
Our office is in the city centre, with good transport links.
