途经…

passing through … on the way

Structure
主语 途经 地点1、地点2 ,(最终) 到达/抵达 终点

What it means

‘Pass through … on the way’: a verb naming the places a route, train, river or canal passes before it reaches its end.

How it is built

Subject + 途经 + place 1、place 2 + (最终) 到达/抵达 + end: 这趟列车途经南京、济南,终点是北京 (the train calls at Nanjing and Jinan on the way to Beijing).

When to use it

Timetables, route maps and news; in speech say 经过 or 路过. 途径 (4-3) is a noun, ‘channel, means’: 通过合法途径.

Watch out

The places follow directly, with no 过: ✗途经过南京 ✓途经南京. Don't confuse 途经 tú jīng (a route, verb) with 途径 tú jìng (a means, noun).
