索性
might as well; simply go ahead and
Structure
(既然/反正)情况已经这样 , 主语 索性 动词(更彻底的做法)
What it means
“Might as well; simply go ahead and”: since things have already turned out this way, you go the whole way instead of half-measures.
How it is built
(既然/反正)situation,subject + 索性 + verb: 反正已经迟到了,索性吃完早饭再去 (I’m late anyway, so I might as well finish breakfast).
When to use it
Spoken in tone. The reason usually comes first (既然…, 反正…, 越…越…). 干脆 (lesson 1-14) is close and usually interchangeable here, but 干脆 is also an adjective, “straightforward”.
Watch out
✗ 他说话很索性 ✓ 他说话很干脆: 索性 is not an adjective. It reacts to a situation, so do not use it for a plan calmly made in advance.
