受到/遭到 + 动词

to meet with, suffer or receive (a verb used as a noun, in a passive sense)

Structure
主语 受到/遭到/得到 (做事的人 + 的) 双音节动词

What it means

Says the subject meets with, suffers or receives an action. The verb after it behaves like a noun, giving a passive sense.

How it is built

Subject + 受到/遭到/得到 + (doer + 的) + two-syllable verb: 玄奘得到了唐太宗的支持 (Xuanzang had Emperor Taizong's backing).

When to use it

遭到 only for harm (遭到拒绝), 得到 only for help (得到支持), 受到 either way and most common (受到欢迎, 受到影响). More formal than 被, and it leaves room for an adjective: 受到了隆重的欢迎.

Watch out

No object, no one-syllable verb, no 遭到 for good things. ✗ 受到欢迎他 ✗ 遭到打 ✓ 遭到殴打 / 挨打 ✗ 遭到表扬 ✓ 受到表扬.
