融 A 于 B
to blend A into B; to combine A and B into one (written)
Structure
融 A 于 B(之中) / 融 A 和 B 于一体
What it means
To blend A into B, or, with 于一体, to combine several things into one whole. Written, in a classical style.
How it is built
融 + A + 于 + B(之中), or 融 A 和 B 于一体: 这部电影融历史、爱情和武侠于一体 (the film combines history, romance and martial arts).
When to use it
Writing about art, architecture, teaching and design. 融 is the verb, 于 means “into”. In speech say 把 A 融入 B or 把 A 和 B 结合起来. 寓教于乐 (to teach through fun) has the same shape.
Watch out
✗把融A于B: the written pattern takes no 把. ✗融入于: 融入 already contains “into”, so write 融入 B or 融 A 于 B.
