迄今（为止） ， 到现在的情况 ／ 起点 迄今 已 时段
What it means
“Up to now, to date”: 迄 means “up to”, so 迄今 is a written 到现在. It sums up the record so far.
How it is built
迄今为止 + situation, often with 已经, 还没有 or 仍是: 迄今为止，还没有人能解释这种现象 (so far nobody can explain it). After a starting point: 创办于1925年，迄今已有一百年.
When to use it
For news, reports and speeches. 迄今为止 usually opens the sentence; 迄今 alone can follow a starting point (自2014年迄今). In conversation say 到现在为止 or 到目前为止 (到…为止, lesson 1-23).
Watch out
✗ 到迄今为止: 迄 already means “up to”. ✗ 迄今为止我会努力: it only sums up the past up to now, never the future.

To this day it remains the best-selling Chinese single-player game.
这家老字号创办于1925年，迄今已有一百年的历史。
The old firm was founded in 1925 and has a history of a hundred years to date.
迄今为止，还没有人能解释这种现象。
