What it means
Forced by, under pressure of: 迫于 names the force that left someone no real choice.
How it is built
迫于 + noun (压力, 形势, 生计, 舆论), then what one had to do, usually with 只得, 只好, 不得不 or 才: 迫于形势，守将只得投降 (forced by the situation, the commander surrendered).
When to use it
Formal; common in news and history. Keep the three 迫 words apart: 迫于压力而辞职 (noun of cause); 被迫辞职 (before a verb); 压力迫使他辞职 (causative verb with an object).
Watch out
Only a noun follows it, not a full clause: ✗ 迫于时间很紧张了 ✓ 迫于时间关系. Before a verb use 被迫: ✗ 他迫于辞职 ✓ 他被迫辞职.
Examples
守将迫于形势，只得投降。
Forced by the situation, the commander had no choice but to surrender.
迫于生计，他十几岁就出来打工了。
Driven by the need to make a living, he started working away from home in his early teens.
迫于舆论的压力，这家公司不得不公开道歉。
Under pressure from public opinion, the company had to apologise publicly.
