What it means
Leaving … aside: you set aside one point, usually a strong or obvious one, to show your case holds even without it.
How it is built
撇开 + point set aside + 不谈／不说 + comma + main clause, often with 也／本身就／光是…就: 撇开价格不谈，服务也不好 (prices aside, the service is poor too).
When to use it
Argument and commentary; 撇开…不说 is a little more spoken, and everyday speech says 先不说…. 除了…也… counts the first point in; 撇开 removes it so the case rests on the rest. Read piē kāi.
Watch out
The point after 撇开 is the one you are not discussing: ✗ 撇开价格不谈，这家餐厅太贵了 contradicts itself. ✓ 撇开价格不谈，服务也让人不满意.
Examples
撇开技术上的缺陷不谈，这项实验本身就没有必要。
Leaving its technical flaws aside, the experiment was unnecessary in itself.
撇开价格不谈，这家餐厅的服务也让人很不满意。
Leaving the prices aside, the service in this restaurant is pretty unsatisfactory too.
撇开个人感情不说，他确实是这个岗位最合适的人。
Personal feelings apart, he really is the best person for this post.
