Structure
句子一。 然而／因此／可见／总之 ， 句子二。
What it means
In written Chinese a connective at the head of a sentence links it to the whole sentence or paragraph before it, not just to the last clause.
How it is built
Sentence 1。+ connective + ， + sentence 2。: “柳”和“留”谐音。因此，古人送别时常常折柳相赠 (“willow” sounds like “stay”. So people in the past gave willow twigs at parting).
When to use it
Common links: 然而 (yet), 因此 (therefore), 可见 (this shows), 此外 (besides), 总之 (in short). These are written; speech prefers 不过, 所以, 反正. Builds on 6-21 and 6-22.
Watch out
Do not run everything into one long chain of commas. In good written style a full stop plus a connective makes the logic clear: ✗…，…，…，所以… ✓…。因此，…
Examples
月亮哪里都一样。然而在游子眼里，还是故乡的最亮。
The moon is the same everywhere. Yet to someone far from home, the moon over home is the brightest.
“柳”和“留”谐音。因此，古人送别时常常折柳相赠。
“Willow” sounds like “stay”. For that reason people in the past often gave a willow twig at parting.
一首二十个字的诗，一千多年来人人会背。可见，好诗不在长短。
