果然

sure enough; just as expected

Structure
预料或说法 … , 主语 果然 谓语 / 果然 , 句子

What it means

“Sure enough, just as expected”: confirms that something predicted or said earlier really happened.

How it is built

Expectation …,subject + 果然 + verb: 医生说吃了药就会好,第二天他的烧果然退了 (the doctor said it would work; sure enough, the fever was gone). Or 果然,+ clause.

When to use it

The prediction must be in the context. Put 果然 before the verb (他果然来了) or at the head of the clause with a comma. For what nobody expected, use 居然 or 竟然.

Watch out

Not for a result that goes against expectation: ✗ 我以为他会来,他果然没来。 ✓ 我以为他会来,他却没来/他居然没来。
