Structure
按照／按 + 名词 + 动词
What it means
按照 + a noun says what you follow: a plan, a rule, what someone asked for. “According to, following”.
How it is built
按照／按 + noun + verb: 我们按照计划，星期五出发 (We leave on Friday, as planned). 请按经理说的做.
When to use it
按 means the same and sounds more spoken. Only 按 works before a single syllable: 按时 “on time”. On its own, 按 also means “to press” (a button).
Watch out
It goes before the verb. ✗ 做按照计划 ✓ 按照计划做. ✗ 按照时 ✓ 按时.
Examples
我们按照计划，星期五出发。
We leave on Friday, as planned.
请按经理说的做。
Please do as the manager said.
按照学校的要求，上课不能用手机。
Under the school’s rules, phones can’t be used in class.
